The Tivo HD XL is my second Tivo purchase, my first being the Tivo HD. I used the Tivo HD with a MyDVRExpander from Western Digital for a total of 93 hours of HD recording space. Since my wife likes to watch her shows upstairs, I moved the Tivo HD into our spare room for the wife. I decided to spend the extra money for he HD XL. What you’re basically paying for is a lartger, 1TB drive that gives you 163 hours of HD recording space. It also features Dolby THX and the premium, backlit remote. I also noticed that the HD XL assigns a folder for each show in the “Now Playing” page. This is a convenience in that you don’t have to go searching the page for an older episode of a show that you have a Season Pass for. Other than the aformentioned and a few more things I’ve probably missed, it is virtually the same as the HD. Considering that an afterfactory Tivo fitted with a much larger drive can cost anywhere from $750-$1,000, not to mention the voiding of the warranty, the HD XL is a bargain, for which I paid $468 plus $20 for shipping from Electronics Expo. Word to the wise: put the Tivo in your cart and monitor the price for a few weeks before making the purchase. You will see that the price changes hourly with some vendors. If theprice drops further after your purchase, by all means contact the venor and request a credit. Most vendors would be happy to oblige, since some vendors wouldn’t want you to rate them a ‘zero.’ With Netflix srtreaming, Amazon Unbox, Season Pass, and the overall ease of use, I will NEVER use another substandard, crappy DVR from Cablevision. The Tivo HD XL is a great product and you will not be disappointed!
